Dr Stewart completed his medical degree at Monash University in Melbourne, graduating with First Class Honours in 2005.  He returned home to Brisbane and undertook his residency years at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Greenslopes Hospital and The Mater Hospital.  Dr Stewart experienced and worked in a variety of Surgical and Critical Care rotations and completed Basic Surgical Training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. 

In 2010 Dr Stewart commenced Ophthalmology training through the Sydney Eye Hospital Training Program.  He completed registrar training in January 2014 and spent 6 months in Darwin as the Top End Ophthalmology Services (TEOPS) Fred Hollows Foundation Ophthalmology Outreach Fellow. During this tenure Dr Stewart visited many remote Indigenous communities to provide vital Ophthalmic care.

In August 2015 Dr Stewart undertook his first fellowship in Oculoplastic and Adnexal Surgery at The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, United Kingdom for 18 months.  This was under the tutelage of Mr Jonathan Norris.  Following his time in Oxford, he commenced at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London as one of the senior Oculoplastic and Adnexal Fellows.  He was privileged to work closely with and learn from world leaders Professor Geoff Rose and Mr Daniel Ezra.

Following the conclusion of his 12 month fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Dr Stewart returned home to Brisbane and commenced private and public practice.  He was one of the founding partners of Queensland Ophthalmic Specialists.  Dr Stewart consults as a Senior Visiting Specialist at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and operates at Westside Private Hospital and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. 

He is actively involved in teaching Ophthalmology registrars through his position at RBWH, is a Basic Science Examiner in anatomy for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland and is a peer reviewed author/reviewer.

Outside of work Dr Stewart enjoys road cycling and keeping fit as well as spending time with his young family.
